چکیده

Free-form deformations (FFDs) have long been a popular tool in modeling and key-frame animation. This paper extends the use of FFDs to a dynamic setting. A goal of this work is to enable normally rigid objects, such as teapots and tables, to come alive and learn to move about. Objects are assigned mass distributions and deformation properties, which allow them to translate, rotate, and deform according to internal and external forces. The primary contributions are threefold. First, a dynamic formulation of FFDs is presented. It is based on deformation modes which are tailored by the user and are expressed in terms of FFDs. Second, the formulation allows for a hierarchy of dynamic FFDs which can be used to model local as well as global deformations. Third, the deformation modes can be active and used as a basis for locomotion.

Dynamic Free-Form Deformations for Animation Synthesis

Free-form deformations (FFDs) are a popular tool for modeling and keyframe animation. This paper extends the use of FFDs to a dynamic setting. Our goal is to enable normally inanimate graphics objects, such as teapots and tables, to become animated, and learn to move about in a charming, cartoon-like manner. To achieve this goal, we implement a system that can transform a wide class of objects ...

Dirichlet Free-Form Deformations and their Application to Hand Simulation

We present a generalized method for free-form deformations that combines the traditional freeform deformation model with techniques of scattered data interpolation based on Delaunay and Dirichlet/Voronoi diagrams. This technique offers many advantages over traditional FFDs, including simple control of local deformations. It also keeps all the capabilities of FFD extensions, such as extended fre...

Interactive soft-touch dynamic deformations

It is crucial for the users to touch, grasp and manipulate the interested objects through our sense of touch in many interactive applications, such as on-line computer games, interactive cartoon design, and virtual prototyping. In this paper, we propose an interactive haptic deformation approach which incorporates the dynamic simulation of mass–spring systems and flexible control of free-form d...

Flexible multibody dynamics and adaptive finite element techniques for model synthesis and estimation *

This paper develops a general approach for the efficient modeling and animation of non-rigid multibody objects. We develop a new family of physics-based modeling primitives that can undergo free motions as well as parameterized and free-form deformations. Starting with parameterized geometric primitives and adding global geometric deformations, local finite-element deformations, mass distributi...

Facial Performance Synthesis using Deformation-Driven Polynomial Displacement Maps

We present a novel method for acquisition, modeling, compression, and synthesis of realistic facial deformations using polynomial displacement maps. Our method consists of an analysis phase where the relationship between motion capture markers and detailed facial geometry is inferred, and a synthesis phase where novel detailed animated facial geometry is driven solely by a sparse set of motion ...
